Scolari's Evergrande rally to beat Shandong 2-1 in Chinese Super League

Xinhua, June 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande gave its new coach Luiz Scolari a gift on Saturday, rallying to beat Shandong Luneng 2-1 on road in the 14th round of Chinese Super League (CSL).

Both teams had got 26 points and topped in the tables before today's game. And it was Scolari's first game in the CSL. Furthermore, Shandong coach Cuca, also a Brazilian, just got a ban off the pitch for seven months for a clash with a referee in the last round.

Shandong broke the deadlock in the 14th minute, when the Chinese international winger Liu Binbin dribbled fast into the box, dancing past the last defender and blasted the ball into the top right corner.

But Guangzhou's Zheng Long took over the match since the 32nd minute. His free kick assisted Zou Zheng for an equalizing header.

Zheng's performance in front of the new coach was not over. He sealed the 2-1 win for Evergrande in the 52nd minute, through a curling kick from 21- meter distance.

Under Scolari's lead, Guangzhou may create some sensational games for the fans in the league.

In Beijing, Beijing Guoan whitewashed Tianjin Teda 3-0. Dejan Damjanovic, Pablo Batalla and Shao Jiayi made a goal each for Guoan, keeping the Guoan's unbeaten run against Tianjin at home in 10 years.

In other games on Saturday, Hangzhou downed Jiangsu 2-1, Chongqing defeated Guangzhou R&F 2-1, Henan Jianye smashed Shanghai Shenxin 5-0 and Shanghai Greenland beat Liaoning Whowin 3-1. Endi
