India beefs up security in anticipation of Int'l Yoga Day Sunday

Xinhua, June 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indian capital has been put on high alert ahead of Sunday's mega International Yoga Day event, said officials on Saturday.

Around 5,000 security personnel would be deployed to keep vigil on Rajpath in central Delhi, where thousands would join the activity organized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally.

Modi himself and a part of his cabinet, as well as foreign diplomats and senior officials will be present at Rajpath for the event.

Police have banned flying of kites, balloons, gliders, micro- light objects and drones during the day in the central part of the capital city.

Police will also barricade all key roads leading to India Gate, the start point of the axis of the thoroughfare leading to the presidential palace.

Meanwhile, security is also being beefed up in other major Indian cities in anticipation of the event. Endi
