Navas injury could complicate Casillas' future

Xinhua, June 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Real Madrid's Costa Rican international goalkeeper Keylor Navas will return to Spain after an Achilles tendon injury forced him out of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The news was confirmed by Costa Rica coach, Paulo Wanchope, who explained that the goalkeeper might require an operation to cure his problem.

"It's a shame, Keylor will now need to travel back to Spain so he can be examined by the Real Madrid medical team, who will decide what treatment he needs," said Wanchope.

Navas' injury comes at a delicate time for Real Madrid, who are trying to sign Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea in a move that would almost certainly see Real Madrid's veteran Spain international, Iker Casillas leave the club.

However, if Navas, who was reserve to Casillas last season, requires a long recovery period, then Real Madrid would possibly be reluctant to allow Casillas to leave over the summer, leaving him facing the prospect of a long spell on the substitutes' bench. Endi
