South Korea earns a round of 16 ticket by sinking Spain 2-1

Xinhua, June 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

South Korea came from a goal down to defeat Spain 2-1 at the FIFA Women's World Cup to reach the knockout stage here on Wednesday.

Spain dominated the first half and Veronica Boquete scored for the European team in the 29th minute. They almost saw the hope for progress.

But action-packed second half opened with Ji So-yun starting a move which ended with Cho Soyun heading home the equalizer.

Though Silvia Meseguer and Corredera had strong chances to score for Spain, it was South Korea who scored the crucial next goal, as Kim Sooyun's lob passed over the goalkeeper's reach.

South Korea climbed to the second place with the victory, and they will face France in the round of 16 on June 21. Endi
