Germany's benchmark DAX index closes down

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Wednesday closed down slightly by 66 points at 10,978.01 points.

The fear for the Greek debt weighed on the sentiment of investors and the blue-chip index lost 0.6 percent. The finance ministers of the euro zone will meet on Thursday to negotiate about the Greek debt issue.

Linde AG, an industrial gas company, rose by 1.89 percent. Deutsche Telekom AG advanced by 1.06 percent. LANXESS AG, a specialty chemicals company, climbed by 0.65 percent.

On the other hand, Deutsche Lufthansa AG dropped by 1.99 percent. Continental AG lost 1.82 percent. Henkel AG & Co. KGaA Vz, a home care company, slipped by 1.68 percent. Merck KGaA, a leading pharmaceutical, chemical and life science company, slid by 1.67 percent and Daimler AG went down by 1.49 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.3 billion euros (around 3.72 billion U.S. dollars ). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 325.82 million euros (around 366.85 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
