The European Union (EU) on Monday said it was looking forward to participating in all discussions of the UN Human Rights Council here, with a special focus on issues concerning migration and Ukraine.

According to a press release on the website of the European External Action Service, the country situations and thematic issues with EU's special focus included migration, Belarus, Ukraine, Syria, South Sudan, Burundi, women's rights and gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, terrorism and violent extremism.

"The increase in irregular migration flows through trafficking and smuggling of human beings, including the terrible sufferings it causes, deserves our utmost attention," said the press release.

Concerning Ukraine, it said the EU continues to closely follow the situation in Ukraine, with the aim of having the council address the issue appropriately, and to support implementation of the Minsk agreements with a view to bringing a solution to the crisis that respects Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence, as well as international law.
