Malta's inflation surges amid cheaper fuel

Xinhua, June 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Malta's annual rate of inflation in May stood at 1.3 percent, a notable increase comparing to 0.4 percent over the same period last year, according to a report released by the archipelago's National Statistics Office on Monday.

Measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices, the annual inflation's largest upward impacts were brought about by the Clothing and Footwear Index (0.3 percentage points), the Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages Index (0.3 percentage points) and the Miscellaneous Goods and Services Index (0.2 percentage points).

These were mainly due to higher prices for garments, vegetables and retirement homes.

A downward impact was recorded in the Transport Index (0.2 percentage points), due to lower fuel prices.

The 12-month moving average rate was 0.8 percent. Endit
