Chinese officials look to ancient classics for leadership arts

Chinese Academy of Governance (CAG), a top-level public servant school, has published textbooks on ancient classics and culture, the CAG announced Monday.

The studies of Chinese ancient literature, arts and philosophy, called "national studies," have become increasingly popular. There are more than 700 titles profiling national studies, for kindergarten kids right up to college students.

With the publication of the new textbook, national studies are likely to be featured in training classes for government leaders at all levels, according to the CAG.

Xu Hongwu, chief editor of the textbook, said the 10-volume book presented traditional culture and values that can shed light on modern public administration; approaching good leadership from the art of integrity; managing subsidiaries; offering political advise; and the arts of military maneuvering, among other aspects.

Chen Baosheng, Party chief of CAG, said Chinese classics have ample discussions on the harmony between man and nature, revolving around trends of history, attributes of a righteous man, as well as wisdom of governing, which will enhance officials' morality and capacity. Endi
