94 militants killed within 24 hours in Afghanistan: MoI

Units of Afghan police backed by the army have killed 94 Taliban militants during a series of operations across the conflict-ridden country over the past 24 hours, Ministry of Interior said in a statement released here Monday.

"A total of 94 armed militants have been killed over the past 24 hours as police backed by army conducted several anti-terrorism operations in Takhar, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Sar-e-Pul, Kandahar, Oruzgan, Logar, Khost, Kunar, Paktiya, Herat, Badghis and Helmand provinces," the statement said.

According to the statement, 49 militants have been wounded and six others arrested during the operations which are continuing.

Taliban militants have yet to make comments, but they, in an online statement released Monday, claimed killing eight Afghan security personnel and injuring five others in Shinkai district of the southern Zabul province on Sunday. Endi
