11 killed in road accident in Egypt's Hurghada

Xinhua, June 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 11 people were killed and another 11 were injured on Sunday when a bus overturned in southeast of Egypt, official news agency MENA reported.

A passenger bus overturned on the ring road in the Red Sea coastal city of Hurghada due to high speed, initial investigations showed.

The wounded were delivered to the local hospitals, said Houssam Gamel, the head of ambulance authority in Hurghada, adding that some are in serious conditions.

Egypt loses about 12,000 lives due to road traffic crashes every year, according to the World Health Organization.

Lack of highway monitoring systems, poor road maintenance and negligence of traffic rules are behind the high rate of road accidents in Egypt. Endit
