Africa should process its own mineral resources, says Zuma

Xinhua, June 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

South African President Jacob Zuma on Friday stressed the importance of Africa to process its mineral resources within the continent.

"This is the reason why as leaders we have agreed that we can no longer have our mineral resources processed outside the continent, all our resources should be processed here in Africa to fully benefit our people," Zuma said at the 25th African Union (AU) Summit here.

Zuma made the appeal while participating in the AU Presidential Golf Challenge, which aims to raise funds for the African Union Foundation.

Zuma welcomed all the Heads of State and Government as well as entire delegations to this historic summit, saying South Africa "is truly honored to host the leadership of our continent for this crucial summit."

The summit is taking place at the Sandton International Convention Center in Johannesburg under the theme "Year of Women Empowerment and Development towards Africa's Agenda 2063." Endi
