4 westerners plead guilty to obscene act on Mt Kinabalu in Malaysia

Xinhua, June 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

The four westerners who allegedly stripped naked on Mount Kinabulu pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of obscene behavior in a public place in a Malaysian court, according to local media reports.

The two Canadian siblings, a Dutch and a Briton were taken into custody by the Malaysian authorities on Wednesday, and they were now facing up to three months in prison or a fine.

A group of foreign tourists stripped to take pictures at the top of Mount Kinabalu on May 30, which infuriated many local people who regarded this act as disrespectful.

Some of the Sabah residents and local government officials even indicated that their behavior had angered the spirit of the mountain and caused a 5.9-magnitude earthquake which killed 18 people. Endi
