Singapore, Thailand establish close historical ties: PM

Singapore and Thailand have established close historical ties and the relations have expanded over the years, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said.
Singapore is Thailand's second largest investor and the top investor from ASEAN for the last few years, Lee said when hosted his Thai counterpart General Prayut Chan-o-cha and his delegation to an official dinner at the Istana, reported Channel NewsAsia on Friday.
Bilateral trade over the past 10 years has grown steadily with the amount about 30 billion Singapore dollars now, he added.
As for people-to-people ties, PM Lee said, the relations have been strong. Over half a million Thais visited Singapore last year and about 800,000 Singaporeans also traveled to Thailand during the same period of time.
PM Lee added the ongoing Southeast Asian Games are also a good platform to enhance such ties. He also complimented the performance of Thailand's athletes at the SEA Games.
Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is in the city state for a two-day official visit from Thursday to Friday. During the visit, Prayut is scheduled to meet with his Singaporean counterpart as well as other important figures. Endi
