The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched up 24.11 points, or 0. 12 percent, from Thursday at 20,407.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.60 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,651. 48.

Gainers were led by precision instruments, electric machinery and other products.

The turnover was about 3,512.4 billion yen (about 28.43 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
