Czech provides financial aid to Zatari refugee camp in Jordan

Xinhua, June 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Czech Republic has sent 45 million crowns (about 1.8 million U.S. dollars) in support of the infrastructure development in the Zatari refugee camp in Jordan, namely a safe electric energy grid, the Czech Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry has signed an agreement with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on the donation.

The Czech government approved a program in aid of refugees in their home regions in January 2015. It plans to earmark up to 100 million crowns annually within the program.

The Czech government decided to earmark the first 60 million crowns for the purpose in May, and 45 million crowns of the sum goes to Zatari.

Further 5 million crowns will go to the Danish Foreign Ministry which assists in a project aiding Syrian refugees in Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon. The remaining 10 million crowns will go to Turkey for securing accommodation for refugees. (1 U.S. dollar = 24.220 crowns) Endit
