Tokyo shares end higher on weaker yen

Tokyo shares ended remarkably higher Thursday as sentiment was boosted by the yen's retreat and optimism over Japan's economic outlook.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average skyrocketed 336.61 points, or 1.68 percent, from Wednesday to 20,382.97.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 20.65 points, or 1.27 percent, to 1,648. 88.

Gainers were led by land transport, retail and foods.

The turnover was about 2,571.8 billion yen (about 20.90 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
