Xinhua, UNEP sign MOU to enhance cooperation

Xinhua, June 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Xinhua News Agency and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance bilateral cooperation on Wednesday in Beijing.

UNEP and Xinhua share common objectives in conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources, including biological diversity worldwide, the MOU said.

The MOU will provide a framework of cooperation and understanding, and facilitate collaboration between the two sides to further their shared goals and objectives.

According to the MOU, Xinhua will provide media coverage during Key UNEP events, including products and services such as press releases, feature stories, social media and multimedia coverage.

The two sides will explore opportunities in new media collaboration, including content sharing on applications and social media campaigns.

The two will also co-host photo exhibitions to promote best practices in environmental sustainability around the world, as well as jointly hold media outreach activities for young environment journalists.

Xinhua President Cai Mingzhao met with visiting UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner before signing of the MOU.

Cai said the signing of the MOU is significant for global sustainable development, stressing that Xinhua is willing to strengthen media coverage on environment protection and sustainable development so as to promote human progress.

Steiner praised Xinhua's development in new media and social media areas, saying the UNEP is willing to further promote exchanges and cooperation with Xinhua.

Before the meeting, Steiner had an exclusive interview with Xinhua. Endi
