Philippine gov't calls attention over inverted flag in SEA Game

Xinhua, June 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Philippine government on Wednesday called attention over the inverted flag displayed in the jerseys of some Filipino athletes that competed in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, hoping it was a mere oversight.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said photographs in several Philippine daily newspapers showed United States-based Filipino athletes Kayla Richardson and Eric Cray wearing jerseys with an inverted Philippine flag after they won the gold on Tuesday.

Lacierda said the colors of the jerseys, based on the Philippine flag's blue and red were all right but "it is only the patch of the flag that was inverted."

"We hope that this was a mere oversight. We are proud of the glory that our athletes achieved for flag and country," he added.

An inverted Philippine flag, with red rather than blue at the top, means the country is at war. Endi
