Xinhua, June 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The navies of the Philippines and Japan will conduct sea drills from June 22 to 26 to improve interoperability of both sides, a Philippine military official said on Tuesday.

Philippine Navy spokesman Edgard Arevalo said the drills would be dealing with humanitarian assistance and disaster response, maritime search and rescue, and maritime situational awareness.

"These confidence-building activities aim to foster camaraderie, nurture established friendship, and promote interoperability of the two navies," said Arevalo, also the concurrent chief of the Navy's Civil Military Operations Group.

Arevalo added that the navy-to-navy engagement "envisions to share new tactics, techniques, and procedures as well as best practices for further maritime operations, especially now that the Philippines is nearing the raining season."

However, Arevalo did not reveal the exact locations where upcoming the drills will be conducted, nor did he say the specific type and number of aircrafts that will be involved in the drills. Endi
