Spain coach Vicente del Bosque was once again left with the task of pouring oil onto troubled waters as his players reported for duty ahead of Spain's two international games against Costa Rica and Belarus.
As if often the case the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid is the source of the tension as Barca striker mocked Colombian singer Kevin Roldan during his side's treble celebration on Sunday night.
Pique drew attention to the fact that Barca had overhauled Madrid after Roldan had performed at Cristiano Ronaldo's 30th birthday party the same day Real had lost 4-0 to local rivals Atletico Madrid, a party which caused a strong media backlash which has meant Ronaldo has not spoken to the press since.
"It all started with you Kevin," joked Pique in a dart at Barca's eternal rivals, which also made headlines across Spain, but which according to Del Bosque has not caused tension in the Spain camp.
"I haven't seen any long faces, it was irony or reality, but nobody has to take it to heart and there have been far worse celebrations," he said, turning his attention to the forthcoming matches.
"It's not at the best of dates, but we need to make one final effort as we have a lot at stake," he said on radio station, Onda Cero.
Del Bosque was asked about Juventus striker, Alvaro Morata, who was on the losing side on Saturday and said, he "had played well and never got nervous on the ball. He has got a lot of quality," he insisted.
Meanwhile he had a warning for new Barca signing Alex Vidal, who will not be able to play for his new club until the New Year because of Barca's transfer ban.
"If he is not playing it will be difficult for us to call him up," said Del Bosque. Endi
