Parliamentary forum shows BRICS' confidence to boost cooperation

Xinhua, June 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

The success of the First BRICS Parliamentary Forum held here on Monday was an important step toward parliamentary cooperation among BRICS members, and showed the world their confidence to boost cooperation, a Chinese legislator said.

All sides agreed to take advantage of parliamentary cooperation and to facilitate the implementation of results achieved at meetings of BRICS leaders, in a bid to provide legal guarantee for economic cooperation and cultural exchange within the bloc, said Chong Quan, member of China's National People's Congress Foreign Affairs Committee, in a joint interview with BRICS media in Moscow.

China has attached great importance to the forum, and top Chinese legislator Zhang Dejiang attended the forum and delivered a speech, he noted.

Zhang is paying a visit to Russia to attend the BRICS parliamentary forum and a meeting of the parliamentary cooperation committee of China and Russia at the invitation of Chairwoman of Russia's Federation Council Valentina Matvienko and State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkinm, he added.

As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the victory of World anti-Fascist War, Chong said, legislators from BRICS countries vowed to work closely with each other to help the bloc play a bigger role in safeguarding the results of World War II, improving global governance as well as boosting multilateralism and democracy in international relations.

BRICS members, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, decided at the forum to reinforce coordination in dealing with world political and economic issues, in order to promote global order to develop in a more justified way, said Chong, coordinator of the Chinese side at this year's forum.
