Xinhua, June 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Tens of thousands of protesters rallied on Thursday in the capital city of the southern German state of Bavaria against a G7 summit scheduled for June 7-8.

The main demonstration kicked off at about 14:00 o'clock (1200 GMT) in Munich. The protesters marched through the city and hold a final rally at about 17:00 (1500 GMT).

According to the Munich police, about 34,000 people have taken part in the peaceful demonstration, and 3,000 police officers were in operation and accompanied the protesters along the way.

Politicians, environmentalists and nongovernmental organizations called the rally under the banner "Stop TTIP, Save the Climate, Fight Poverty". TTIP abbreviates the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership that European and U.S. negotiators are dealing with.

Germany, who holds the Group of Seven presidency this year, will host the two-day meeting with the leaders of Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Japan and the United States amid a massive police presence at Elmau Castle near the Austrian border. Endit
