Press photo contest ends in Russia, encourages young photographers

Xinhua, June 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

A press photo contest ended here Wednesday with the top prize being awarded to a Russian female photographer Yelena Anosova.

Entitled "Dissociation," Anosova's photo series depicted the daily life of female convicts. American photojournalist Timothy Fadek, a member of the jury, said the series were the "most forceful of all the entries," according to an online official statement.

The jury voted for the best works in four categories of top news, current issues, sports, and everyday life.

Coming from different countries, 24 winners got special certificates for their works.

Another 11 finalists from Russia, Bangladesh, China and Spain were awarded honorable mention prizes.

The Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest, held by Rossiya Segodnya under the patronage of the Commission of the Russian Federation of UNESCO, is named after Russian photojournalist Andrei Stenin, who died at the age of 33 while on an assignment in eastern Ukraine in August 2014.

With support from China's Xinhua News Agency and other news organizations from countries such as Russia, Britain and Indonesia, the contest was held in Russia to support young photographers to pursue professional excellence.

An exhibition of the best entries, along with several photos made by Stenin, will be organized in Moscow in September 2015. Endi
