Spanish El Celler de Can Roca returns to "best restaurant"

Spain once again counts on being the home of the best restaurant in the World as the restaurant "El Celler de Can Roca" was given that award at an awards ceremony organized in London by the publication "Restaurant" magazine on Monday night.

The decision means that El Celler de Can Roca, which is run by the brothers, Joan, Jordi and Josep Roca, returns to the number one spot, which it had originally claimed in 2013, before slipping down the list last year.

The Girona based restaurant was not the only Spanish triumph of the night as four other Spanish chefs had their establishments named in the top 50 of the list, while Albert Adria was named as the best dessert maker in the industry.

"Cooking is growing and expanding its reach to a more sustainable, healthy and sensitive society. It is something that we are all trying to achieve," said Josep Roca on accepting the award.

The Celler de Can Roca was originally opened in 1986, but in 2007 moved to a specially-built modernist building which is its current home. The Roca brothers specialize in preparing traditional Catalan cuisine, but with a creative twist.

It was awarded its third Michelin star in 2009, after receiving the first in 1995 and the second in 2003. Endit
