Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III left Tuesday morning for his four-day state visit to Japan to further enhance relations of the two countries.

During his trip, Aquino is set to meet Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, hold a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe, and to deliver a speech before the joint session of the National Diet.

The president, in his departure message, said that in his address before the Japanese parliament, he would express support for the reforms being pushed in the Diet, "which will surely bring more progress and opportunities for them and our people."

He said he would also meet with the representatives of different business groups in Japan where he would personally share with them the Philippine economic progress.

Aquino will also meet with the Filipino community in Japan.

Aquino and Abe will witness the signing of a contract between the Philippine Department of Transportation and Communications and the Japan Marine United Corporation on Maritime Safety Capability Improvement Project.

The president will return to Manila on Friday. Endi
