China urges Arab world to settle regional conflicts via political means

China urges the Arab countries to settle regional conflicts and differences through peaceful and political means, Yang Jiechi, China's state councilor, said here on Monday.

The senior Chinese official, who just wrapped up a short visit to Egypt, made the remarks while meeting with Nabil al-Araby, secretary-general of the Arab League (AL), an regional organization that is based in Cairo.

Also during their talks, Yang said China and Arab states need to promote political mutual trust, and join hands in building a China-Arab community of interests.

He also said China and the Arab countries have made some "early harvest" in implementing the "Belt and Road" initiative since Chinese President Xi Jinping made the proposal last year.

Yang added that China supports the Arab countries to choose the development paths suitable to their own conditions.

For his part, Araby said China has always been a champion of justice, and supported the just cause of the Arab world, adding that he sees in China trustworthy friend of the developing nations.

The AL chief also said that Arab states would like promote all-around cooperation with China, and make joint efforts in carrying out the belt and road initiative.

Also in the talks, Araby believed that both sides should deepen the building of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, and enhance coordination in international and regional affairs so as to maintain world peace and stability.

Yang also met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry on Monday. Endit
