One person was wounded Monday after unidentified gunmen threw a grenade on a mobile phone tower in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
The grenade attack took place in Habba Kadal locality of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Shahoo Imtiyaz, a civilian, was wounded today when militants hurled a grenade toward a cellphone tower," a police officer said. "The tower was installed in the premises of Imtiyaz at Gudood Bagh area of the locality."
The wounded was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment, locals said.
Following the attack, senior police officers reached the spot to assess the situation and damages.
The attack has triggered panic among the locals.
"We heard the sound of blast and came out rushing to find it was tossed on mobile towers," Sameer Ahmad, a local resident told Xinhua over telephone.
Mobile phone system has been badly affected in northwest of Srinagar following a spate of attacks targeting telecommunication towers and people associated with mobile phone companies.
Last week two people were killed and three others wounded in a series of attacks in Sopore and Pattan area of the region.
Mobile phone towers in Sopore town of Indian-controlled Kashmir were closed in wake of continued attacks on landlords who have rented their space for installation of these towers. Endi
