Xinhua, June 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Three Taliban militants were killed while 19 people wounded after militants attacked a police station in Jalalabad city, capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar overnight Sunday, an official source said on Monday.

Unknown number of armed militants stormed Fast-Reaction Police Forces' station at around 11:10 p.m. Sunday. The clash and fire exchange ended at wee hours of Monday, causing three militants killed and wounding 19 others," the source told Xinhua anonymously.

The wounded were shifted to a hospital. Nine police personnel and five children were among the injured.

The attack took place near the provincial police station office in the city, 120 km east of Afghan capital of Kabul, according to the source.

The Taliban group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since April 24 when the militant group launched its so-called annual spring offensive in different places of the militancy-plagued Afghanistan which had claimed hundreds of lives including militants, security personnel and civilians. Endi
