Indian PM to visit Israel

Xinhua, May 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Israel at a time of mutual convenience, said Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday.

If realized, this would be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Israel since the country's independence in 1947.

No dates have been finalized for Modi's visit which will take place on mutually convenient dates, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj told local media.

India established "full" diplomatic relationship with Israel in 1992 though it recognized the Jewish state in 1950.

Ariel Sharon was the first Israeli premier to visit India and that was in 2003.

India has been developing defense cooperation ties with Israel over the past decade. Endi
