Croatia emerges from recession: minister

Xinhua, May 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Croatia formally emerged from a six-year-long recession with GDP growth in second continuous quarters, a senior official said on Friday.

Branko Grcic, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and EU funds, told a press conference that the GDP grew 0.5 percent in the first quarter of the year, higher than the forecast earlier.

Positive trend could continue, He added.

The country's GDP grew 0.5 percent in the first quarter, a second quarter in a row growth, after a 0.3 percent growth in the last quarter of 2014, according to the latest figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS) published on Friday.

The negative trends of investment were reduced and industrial production has grown by 0.3 percent in the first quarter of 2015, Grcic said, adding the government expect perhaps an even higher growth by the end of the year. Endit
