Japan, EU eye to boost trade, anti-terrorism cooperation

Xinhua, May 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Japan and the European Union vowed to boost economic and trade relations with the two sides eyeing to reach a free trade agreement by the end of 2015, according to a joint statement issued after the 23rd Japan-EU summit held here Friday.

The two sides also eyed to enhance their cooperation on developing the 5th generation (5G) mobile telecommunications network such as to facilitate the emergence of global standards for 5G and to facilitate the identification of globally harmonized radio frequency bands to meet the additional spectrum requirements for 5G.

The two sides said they "strongly condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations" and will work to "support international cooperation to counter-terrorism."

On regional affairs, the two sides said that they "determined never" to recognize Russia's move on Crimea and will continue to support Ukraine.

They also support the full and effective implementation of the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea.

The two sides also expressed their concerns over the nuclear program of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The two sides also agreed to improve bilateral cooperation on addressing climate change, disaster relief and science and technology. Endi
