European FTA on agenda in New Zealand talks with Slovak Republic

Xinhua, May 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

New Zealand is pushing its case for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Union during a visit by Slovak Republic Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak.

New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully said Friday that Lajcak had arrived for a two-day visit on Thursday.

"Mr Lajcak's visit is the first by a Slovakian Foreign Minister since 1999 and it is an opportunity to reaffirm the friendship between our two countries," McCully said in a statement.

"Our meeting today will cover a range of regional security issues, including the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, and New Zealand's first five months on the UN Security Council," he said.

"New Zealand will also raise our ambition for a free trade agreement with the European Union, of which the Slovak Republic is a member." Endi
