Nikkei hits fresh 15-yr high on weaker yen

Tokyo stocks rose 0.17 percent on Wednesday to a fresh 15-year high, as the yen's weakness against the U.S. dollar boosted investor sentiment in export-oriented issues.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 35.10 points, from Tuesday at 20,472.58. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.76 points, or 0.11 percent, higher at 1,661.33.

Major gainers included nonferrous metals, rubber products and textiles and apparel issues.

The turnover was 2,772.57 billion yen (about 22.53 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
