Imported luxury cars outperformed sales of locally Australian made traditional sedans in the first third of 2015, Fairfax Media reported Wednesday.
Figures released to Fairfax Media from the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries show Australian sales of Mercedes C-class sedans are up 102 percent on the previous model, outperforming the Ford Falcon family car, 3,264 units to 2,029.
Total sales of all Mercedes passenger cars are up 21 percent to 8,126, compared with Ford passenger cars, which have slipped 41 percent to 7,022 in the first four months of 2015.
This trend has continued with other luxury brands. BMW is up 16 percent and Audi 14 percent.
Figures show sales of the new Porsche 911s are more common than the new VW Beetle and Golf cabriolets, which sold only 78 and 114 in the first third of 2015 respectively.
Japan is Australia's largest source of motor vehicles with 107, 803 units. Thailand is second with 75,994 vehicles and South Korea ahead of Germany, 40,762 and 28,626 vehicles, respectively. Endi
