Visiting German Defense Minister holds talks with Indian counterpart

Visiting German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen met Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in the national capital late Tuesday evening.

Both ministers held closed-door talks aimed at enhancing bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries against the backdrop of "Make in India" initiative, sources said Wednesday.

Also on the agenda of the German Defense Minister are a visit to the Western Naval Command in Mumbai to hold a meeting with Vice Admiral S.P. Singh Cheema and Indian Navy warship INS Mumbai.

Leyen will wrap up his visit Thursday in Mumbai from where he would head to Singapore to attend the Shangri-La Asia Security Summit.

The German Defence Minister's visit comes six months ahead of Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to India for the next round of inter-governmental consultations. Endi
