Botafogo close to deal for Lazio striker

Xinhua, May 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Botafogo are close to signing Uruguay international striker Emiliano Alfaro, his agent said on Tuesday.

Alfaro, 27, is tied to Italian Serie A club Lazio until May 2016 but has spent the past season on loan at his original club Liverpool of Uruguay.

"I made a commitment to Botafogo that I would negotiate with them first," Alfaro's agent Gerardo Cano told Lance.

"The next step is to try to rescind the contract with Lazio. After that I will feel comfortable talking to Botafogo. I have had a positive experience negotiating with Botafogo in the past and Alfaro is happy about the proposal because they are the most famous Brazilian team among Uruguayans."

Two-time Brazilian Serie A champions Botafogo are currently playing in the country's Serie B after being relegated last season.

Alfaro has been capped by Uruguay at under-17, under-20 and senior levels. Endi
