Spain's vehicle production rises by 12.5 pct until April

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Production of new vehicles in Spain rose by 12.5 percent to a total of 938,019 new vehicles in the first four months of the year when compared with a year earlier, according to data released on Monday.

In April alone a total of 223,666 new vehicles were manufactured, which meant a 4.22 percent increase in comparison with a year earlier, data released by the Association of Car Manufacturers (ANFAC) showed.

The rise in vehicles production was mainly due to the production of private cars that reached 762,122 units in the first four months of the year, registering a 21.08 percent increase year-on-year.

Regarding exports, ANFAC reported the number of vehicles shipped to other countries until April rose by 10 percent to a total of 764,527 units while in April alone exports rose by 5.81 percent year on year to 186,467 units.

ANFAC said public aid to the sector, specifically the plan PIVE, and new investments helped maintain the production.

The Plan PIVE was recently extended with a budget of 225 million euros (247 million U.S. dollars) and consists of giving prospective buyers 1,500 euros to buy a new and more ecologic car in exchange for a 10-year old car or older. Endit
