Chinese president congratulates Liberia on its Ebola-free victory

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Chinese President Xi Jinping recently sent a message to Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, congratulating him on liberia's victory in its fight against the deadly disease Ebola.

China and Africa are good partners and friends and it is incumbent on China to support Africa in fighting the Ebola epidemic, Xi said in the message.

At a crucial time when African countries including Liberia were hit by the Ebola epidemic in early August of last year, the Chinese government and people took the lead in offering several rounds of emergency humanitarian aid and made positive contribution to Liberia's victory over Ebola, Xi said.

Xi noted that the Chinese government and people warmly congratulate on and highly appreciate the fact that the Liberian government and people, under the staunch leadership of President Sirleaf, spared no efforts to fight and terminate the Ebola epidemic in the country.

China is willing to actively participate in "post-Ebola" economic and social reconstruction, and will strengthen the friendly cooperation of mutual benefit in various areas between the two countries so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples, Xi said.

Earlier this month, the World Health Organization announced that the outbreak of Ebola virus in Liberia is over, and Sirleaf sent a message to Xi and thanked China for its huge contribution to Liberia's fight against Ebola. Endi
