Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

An improvised rocket struck a residential bloc in Syria's coastal city of Latakia Monday morning, setting a house on fire and wounding three people.

It was not immediately known who fired the rocket, but there have been battles recently in the northern countryside of Latakia between government forces and an array of jihadist groups.

The attack on Monday happened in downtown Latakia, causing a big fire.

The al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and likeminded groups have been fighting to consolidate their positions in the northern countryside of Latakia, the hometown of President Bashar al-Assad. Endit
