Tokyo shares end higher with Nikkei hitting fresh new high on weaker yen

Tokyo shares ended higher on Monday with its benchmark Nikkei stocks rising for the 7th straight day and hitting a fresh 15-year high on a weaker yen.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 149.36 points, or 0. 74 percent, to 20,413.77, after briefly hitting 20,417.77, its highest level on an intraday basis since April 2000.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 11.30 points, or 0.69 percent, to 1, 659.15.

Gainers were led by utilities, financing business and air transport issues.

The turnover was about 2,146.7 billion yen (about 17.65 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
