Ice bucket challenge raises 1 mln AUD for Australian medical research

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

The charity fad of pouring ice cold water over people's heads has translated into more than 1 million Australian dollars (78 million U.S. dollars) for a motor neurone disease research project in Australia.

Australians were part of a world-wide fundraising campaign for research into the disease which involved people being dunked in ice cold water.

It was announced on Monday that 1 million Australian dollars had been raised through the initiative.

Tens of thousands of Australians participated in the ice bucket challenge by having a bucket of ice and water poured over their heads and uploading the footage to social media to raise awareness and drive fundraising. Endi
