Leverkusen's midfielder Gonzalo Castro joins Dortmund

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

After a long back and forth Leverkusen's midfielder Gonzalo Castro moves to league rivals Dortmund, both sides confirmed on Sunday.

The 27-year-old midfielder was linked with Dortmund since weeks, yet both clubs confirmed the transfer today as Castro penned a four-year deal with the "BVB" after 10 years at Leverkusen.

"We are delighted that we were able to sign Gonzalo Castro. He is an experienced and technically skilled midfielder, who can play on different positions," Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc said.

The German international, who made five caps for Germany, made overall 286 Bundesliga appearances. He provided 57 assists and scored 25 goals.

Castro had a contract with Leverkusen until 2016 but for all that Dortmund made use of a release clause to sign the midfielder for the upcoming season.

"I wanted to start something new, however, the decision wasn't easy for me. I had a fantastic time in all the years at Leverkusen. The club will be always in my heart," Dortmund's new arrival said.

His new side Dortmund completed the season on the 7th place while Leverkusen finished on the 4th place of the Bundesliga standings. Endi
