(Sports) Pakistan wins T20 cricket series against Zimbabwe

Xinhua, May 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Pakistan cricket team on Sunday night won the two-match Twenty20 series by beating visiting Zimbabwe team by two wickets in the second match of the series in the country's eastern city of Lahore, officials said.

According to the scorecard at the website of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Zimbabwe won the toss and selected to bat first and put a total of 175 for 3 in 20 overs at board with Vusi Sibanda's 49 runs and Sean Williams's inning of 58 runs.

Pakistani bowlers Mohammad Sami, Captain Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik took one wicket each.

Chasing the target, Pakistan team kept losing wickets with successions, but the quick inning by the right-hand emerging batsman Mukhtar Ahmad helped Pakistan achieve the target in the nail biting competition.

Zimbabwean bowlers Sean Williams and Chris Mpofu took two wickets each but could not stop Pakistani batsmen from collecting runs.

Ahmed was declared man of the match for his 62 runs of 40 balls with six boundaries and one six. He was also awarded with the player of the series prize as he made 83 runs in the first match of the series.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by five wickets in the first match of the series while chasing the target of 172 in the jam-packed Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Zimbabwe is the first Test playing team that came to Pakistan to play international cricket after a gap of six years since the terrorist attack at the bus of Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in March 2009.

Following the 2009 terrorist attack, international cricket had been suspended in Pakistan as no big cricket nation was ready to send its team to Pakistan.

The PCB had faced huge financial losses as the Pakistan's national team has been playing its all home series on neutral venues in the other countries, especially in United Arab Emirates.

Zimbabwe and Pakistan will also play three One-day International (ODIs) matches on May 26, 28 and 31 at the same venue. Endi
