Cyprus' beaches are declared the cleanest in Europe, local media reported on Saturday.
Agriculture Minister Nicos Kouyialis said that a total of 57 beaches were awarded the Blue Flag, topping Europe's list for the 10th consecutive year.
Many more beaches were also declared to be excellent swimming spots.
The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), denoting that a beach meets its standards in water quality, safety, services and environmental management criteria.
Cyprus depends mostly on thousands of tourists visiting its beaches and archaeological sites to help it overcome an economic crisis that culminated in a 10-billion-euro bailout.
Beaches awarded the certificate have the right to hoist a blue flag denoting clean waters and adequate facilities.
FEE said Europe's most pristine beaches are to be found in Cyprus, Greece, Croatia, Germany and Malta. Endit
