Governor of Charchino district, Afghanistan's Uruzgan province with Trinkot as its capital 370 km south of Kabul, lost his life in a bomb blast on Saturday, spokesman for provincial government, Dost Mohammad Nayab said.

"The governor of Charchino district, Mohammad Ismael Haqyar was on way to office today morning when a bomb organized by militants went off in Shah Mashad area leaving him dead and injuring another person," Nayab told Xinhua.

Without giving more details, the official said that investigation has been initiated into the case.

No group has claimed responsibility.

Haqyar, who had served as governor of Charchino district for the past two years, was regarded an important anti-Taliban figure and had fought against militants alongside security forces. Endi
