Militants attack police official house in Afghanistan, 3 attackers killed

Xinhua, May 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some three attackers were killed and two persons wounded after militants attacked a police official's house in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province overnight Thursday, said the provincial government on Friday. "Several rebels attacked the house of Afghan Local Police (ALP) commander named Sayyed Hussain in Omarzai district last night. Three attackers were killed in exchange of fire,"it said in a statement.

The official's son and his wife were slightly wounded as a result of the attack, according to the statement.

The police launched an investigation and the militants'bodies were shifted to a hospital for identification, the statement noted.

The government established the ALP, or community police, in 2010 to protect villages and districts around the country where army and police have limited presence.

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since late last month when the militant group launched its so-called annual spring offensive in different places of the militancy-plagued Afghanistan which had claimed hundreds of lives including militants, security personnel and civilians. Endi
