Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 7.13 points, or 0.34 percent, to 2,120.85 at the close. Trading volume stood at 411.97 million shares worth 5.65 trillion won (5. 19 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended Tuesday higher with Nikkei index holding the 20,000-point line after three weeks,as sentiment here was boosted by optimism over domestic companies' earnings and upbeat performance of overseas market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 136.11 points, or 0. 68 percent, higher from Monday to 20,026.38.

The turnover was about 2,713.7 billion yen (about 22.62 billion U.S. dollars).

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher Tuesday with the weighted index up 110.67 points, or 1.15 percent, to close at 9, 716.77, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 106.89 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.5 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Tuesday down 1.29 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 18.47 points to 1,417.23. A total of 110,456 shares worth about 772 million Lao kip (about 96,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.49 percent lower on Tuesday. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 39.12 points to 7871.31. The all-share index went down by 17.61 points, or 0.39 percent, to 4542.40.

Trading volume reached 648.23 million shares worth 6.30 billion pesos ( 141.72 million U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- Australian shares closed lower for the second day as resource and consumer stocks weakened an early rally following the release of the Reserve Bank of Australia's (RBA) May meeting minutes.

The benchmark ASX/S&P 200 fell 0.77 percent, closing at 5,615.5 points, while the broader All Ordinaries closed 0.72 percent down to 5,619.4 points.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks rose 102.29 points, or 0.37 percent, to close on Tuesday at 27,693.54 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,500.76 and 27, 765.55. Turnover totaled 136.03 billion HK dollars (17.6 billion U. S. dollars).

SHANGHAI -- Chinese shares ended higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surging 3.13 percent, or 134.06 points, to finish at 4,417.55 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index soared 3.10 percent, or 454.74 points, to close at 15,127.38 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 536.82 points on Tuesday, up 7.87 points, or 1.49 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 93.794 million shares worth 1.339 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (61.82 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 146 stocks went up, 64 stocks fell down, while 73 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 77.44 points on Tuesday, up 0.93 points, or 1.22 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of 39.357 million shares worth 434.643 billion Vietnamese dong (20.12 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 6.33 percent in volume and an increase of 2.92 percent in value against the previous closing session.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 31.56 points, or 0.60 percent, to a level of 5,269.37 on Tuesday.

Some 235,997 transactions were booked, involving 6.55 billion shares worth 6.44 trillion rupiah (about 488.43 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,809.72 down 13.78 points or 0.76 percent, and the Emas was at 12,498.79 down 74.93 points or 0.60 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.09 billion shares valued at 2.00 billion ringgit Malaysia (556.64 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.20 billion shares valued at 1.78 billion ringgit Malaysia ( 498.53 million U.S. dollars) on Monday.

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower Tuesday with the BSE benchmark index Sensex closing at 27,645.53 points, 41.77 points or 0.15 percent down from the previous close of 27,687.30.

The Sensex has remained volatile over the past few months due to uncertainties of economic situation one year after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)index Tuesday moved up 15.55 points, or 1.03 percent to close at 1,525.96 points.
