Some 10 militants had been killed and one dozen rebels wounded during an ongoing military operation in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, an official source said on Tuesday. "Acting on a tip-off, Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) carried out an operation in Baghlan-e-Markazi district, killing 10 Taliban militants and injuring 12 others," General Asadullah Shirzad, commander of Afghan Interior Ministry Special Forces, told reporters.

Several militants' hideouts were destroyed and weapons and ammunition were recovered following the raid which began on early Monday, the official added.

"The operation will continue until the area is cleared of the rebels," he said.

The ANSF has recently intensified operations across the country as spring and summer known as the fighting season is drawing near.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments.

In a separate incident, one police personnel was killed and one other wounded after their van was struck by a roadside bomb in western Farah province on Monday, a provincial police official told Xinhua earlier Tuesday, adding the police vehicle was destroyed by the blast. Endi
