Tokyo shares open higher following strong U.S. performance

Tokyo shares opened higher on Tuesday following surges in the overnight U.S. market.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 80.34 points, or 0.40 percent, from Monday to 19,970.61.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 4.80 points, or 0.30 percent, at 1,631. 46. Endi
