Germany's benchmark DAX index closes up

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Monday advanced by nearly 150 points and closed at 11,594.28 points.

The European Central Bank (ECB) board member Yves Mersch said on Monday that the ECB would maintain the pace and volume of its bond-buying program. The blue-chip index went up by 1.29 percent.

The health care company Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA topped the list of risers with an increase of 3.33 percent. Volkswagen AG Vz advanced by 3.08 percent. Deutsche Telekom AG added 2.88 percent. Bayer AG climbed by 2.64 percent and K+S Aktiengesellschaft, an agricultural chemical and salt company, went up by 2.47 percent.

The utilities company RWE AG St dropped by 1.46 percent. ThyssenKrupp AG lost 0.81 percent. Deutsche Lufthansa AG plunged by 0.69 percent. Commerzbank AG lost 0.44 percent and Deutsche Boerse AG went down by 0.37 percent.

The turnover stood at 3.49 billion euros (around 3.94 billion U.S. dollars ). Volkswagen AG Vz was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 222.35 million euros. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars). Endit
